President Donald Trump has just issued a statement following the explosion at a concert in Manchester which left 19 people dead and dozens injured.
In a press conference this morning, Trump said that the perpetrators of attacks like these are losers, refusing to call them monsters because this would glorify them.
“I extend my deepest condolences to those so terribly injured in this terrorist attack and to the many killed and the families, so many families, of the victims,” Trump said. “We stand in absolute solidarity with the people of the United Kingdom. So many young beautiful innocent people living and enjoying their lives murdered by evil losers in life. I won’t call them monsters because they would like that term. They would think that’s a great name. I will call them from now on losers because that’s what they are.”
Trump went on to say that society can have “no tolerance for this continuation of bloodshed. We cannot stand a moment longer for the slaughter of innocent people.”
Echoing comments he made during a recent speech in Saudi Arabia, Trump also said that terrorists and those who give them aid must be driven out of our society forever.
“This wicked ideology must be obliterated, and I mean completely obliterated,” Trump said.
On Monday night, an explosion went off at about 10:30 p.m. at an Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester Arena. The explosion took place near the end of the concert near the concert hall.
Officials are investigating the incident as a likely terrorist attack, and it was reportedly the work of a suicide bomber, according to NBC News.
This tragic event immediately called to mind the Bataclan theatre terrorist attack that occurred in November 2015. After that attack, Trump said that there would be fewer fatalities if someone there had a gun.
“When you look at Paris — you know the toughest gun laws in the world, Paris — nobody had guns but the bad guys. Nobody had guns. Nobody,” Trump said on the campaign trail. “They were just shooting them one by one and then they (security forces) broke in and had a big shootout and ultimately killed the terrorists.”
