WATCH: Bethanie Mattek-Sands Suffers Scary Knee Injury at Wimbledon

A scary scene at Court 17 halted play at Wimbledon on July 6.

It happened in a match between American Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Romanian Sorana Cirstea. In the opening game of the set, Mattek-Sands chased a ball up to the net and slipped on the grass.

She fell to the ground and immediately gripped her knee. She lad on the ground screaming and crying for help, saying: “Help me please, my knee, help me.”

Mattek-Sands laid on the ground for some time as medical crews responded to her.

Mattek-Sands, 32, was a wild-card entry into the annual tournament this year and is ranked No. 1 in women’s doubles alongside her partner Lucie Safarova. The pair have won three-straight Grand Slam doubles titles with the most recent being at the French Open last June.

The official Wimbledon Twitter account sent a tweet wishing Mattek-Sands the best of luck on her recovery from what they called an “acute knee injury.”
