The Voice is currently in its 13th season, but fans are already hearing about what’s in store for 2018. Previously, it was revealed that Kelly Clarkson would be joining the judges’ panel for season 14 and, with the reboot of American Idol, some fans were wondering why Clarkson wouldn’t be a judge on Idol instead. She explained to Entertainment Online:
I’ve been in talks with The Voice about doing stuff for years. It’s a family decision too, for us. Like, my husband [Brandon Blackstock] manages Blake [Shelton] so we’re all in one place and it’s going to be good. And I’m excited, ya’ll … I had to interview with Ryan Seacrest recently, it was so weird. We’ve never been on, like, opposing networks and so it was funny. We had a good laugh about it.
This will be Clarkson’s first time as a coach on the show, just like newbie Jennifer Hudson, who is a judge for the current season 13. Hudson is also a former American Idol contestant, who has joined The Voice as a coach and Clarkson talked to ET Online about Hudson, saying:
I love, first of all, just the confidence that she has, and I had so much fun with her. I think there is a difference being one of the contestants previously on a show like this. I think that does carry weight.Download Video Links
Last season, coach Alicia Keys revealed that she was leaving The Voice, and explained in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that:
I can’t wait for you to hear new music, and so that’s one of the reasons why I won’t be able to come back next season. But I love writing. It’s just the most beautiful, exciting things, and every time I get better. That’s the blessing and magic of writing.
She also confirmed to TV Insider:
Who knows what the future holds, but I know this one is my final season.
In response to Keys’ departure, fellow Voice coach Blake Shelton joked:
I know she’s not going anywhere. It’s all just a media thing, a ploy. She’ll be back next year and the year after that.
Well, it looks like Shelton was right. Variety has reported that Paul Telegdy, president of Alternative and Reality Group at NBC Entertainment, announced:
We are thrilled to welcome back Alicia’s positive energy, competitive spirit and sheer talent. She brings unparalleled expertise and has proven she knows how to help artists win. The chemistry between Alicia, Kelly, Adam and Blake will make for a wildly unpredictable and compelling Season 14.
Season 14 of The Voice is set to premiere in February 2017, with Blake Shelton, Alicia Keys, Adam Levine and Kelly Clarkson as the coaches.
