Taylor Swift season has officially arrived.
It’s been three years since Swift released her last album, 1989, and now she begins the thrilling rollout for her newest release, Reputation.
Swift announced the news on her Instagram account Wednesday afternoon, posting not only the album cover and its release date (November 10th) but that her first single will come out tonight.
But what time is it set to be released? And where can you stream and listen to it?
Swift’s single will be released on iTunes at 9:01 p.m. PST on Thursday, or at 12:01 a.m. EST on Friday. Upon release, it will be able to stream and purchase on iTunes. You can access the song by going to Swift’s iTunes profile page.
Given Swift’s previous exclusivity with Apple Music, which dissolved this past June according to Business Insider, it is unclear whether the single will immediately be available on Spotify as well.
Filmmaker Joseph Kahn, who previously directed Swift in the music videos for “Blank Space”, “Wildest Dreams” , “Out of the Woods” and “Bad Blood”, confirmed this release time on Twitter, writing: “It’s honestly quite shocking how good of a writer @taylorswift13 is. 12:01 AM EST.”
As for the title of this mysterious single, many fans believe that it is called “Timeless” and is said to be 8-9 minutes long.
The “Timeless” theory took shape even before Swift announced the single’s release date, and stems from the fact that the mysterious website www.timeless.com appeared on Monday. If searched, it takes you to a black homepage with white cursive text that reads “Timeless” and “Coming Soon.”
In addition to this clue, The Telegraph reports that “Timeless” has been registered under Swift’s name on an official music publishing site. It is unclear whether the song will premiere on iTunes (as a possible Apple Exclusive) or on the “Timeless” website.
Additional reports tease that the single may be upwards of 8-9 minutes length. Perez Hilton broke the news, yet even he sounds tentative regarding such a daring length, writing “I’m now hearing from multiple sources that the single is close to 9 minutes long! THAT CAN’T BE RIGHT! Can it??? OMFG!!”
Some fans have also pointed out that Katy Perry previously announced that she would release the music video for her single “Swish Swish” today.
Granted, it may just be a coincidence, but knowing the complicated history between the two pop stars, as well as Swift’s propensity for releasing things on the same day as Perry, it looks like yet another power move from the “Shake It Off” singer.
Either way, fans are extremely excited to hear the new single, and the reactions on Twitter range from sheer bliss to anticipation and in some cases, an aggressive showcase of support for Swift.
