Fire Emblem Warriors is the latest Dynasty Warriors-inspired Nintendo spin-off. The game takes on the tried and true Dynasty Warriors hack-and-slash gameplay and infuses some Fire Emblem action into the mix. The result is a surprisingly solid foundation that will help you find hours of enjoyment as you slash through hordes of enemies with your Fire Emblem characters.
Although most Dynasty Warriors games focus on the single-player element, there is still a way to play multiplayer with a friend. Online multiplayer is out of the question this time around but Nintendo has still given us a way to play local co-op with a friend. With local co-op being a dying breed it’s nice to see some games still implement the feature.
To play multiplayer on Fire Emblem Warriors for the Switch you’ll have to progress through the story by yourself initially. Once you get past Chapter 1, you should have the option to have a second player join you on the battlefield through the Map Preparation screen. You have the options to use single Joy-Cons or hooking up a Pro Controller for multiplayer.
Unfortunately we don’t have the two screen experience we had with Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U. The multiplayer will work in both docked and handheld modes. It looks like multiplayer is only available through one Switch so you don’t have to worry about having to find another Switch to play local multiplayer with someone else.
If you picked up the title on the New Nintendo 3DS in hopes of playing multiplayer then we have some bad news for you. The local multiplayer option is only available on the Nintendo Switch version so New Nintendo 3DS owners will have to stick strictly to single-player content. Fortunately the title ended up finding a way to make it to the New 3DS which opens the audience up for this game a lot. Hyrule Warriors ended up making its way over to the Nintendo 3DS eventually but performance issues marred an otherwise solid game on the base Nintendo 3DS hardware.
Fire Emblem Warriors is out now exclusive on the Nintendo Switch and New Nintendo 3DS.
