Preview

The Cavs are favored by eight, and while they should ultimately walk away with the victory, you may want to be careful if you plan on betting on this game.

Not only has Cleveland struggled against the spread so far this season (1-3), but you should always be weary of teams on the road on the second night of a back-to-back, as the Cavs are after struggling to beat the Bulls last night. Throw in the injuries to Dwyane Wade (out) and Derrick Rose (out), as well as the fact that LeBron James–who has been dealing with a slight ankle injury–just logged over 37 minutes, and there are some potential issues when it comes to the Cavs’ depth.

On the flip side, though, the Nets are dealing with their own injury problems. Already without Jeremy Lin for the year, D’Angelo Russell is being listed as doubtful after tweaking his knee last night against the Magic. That leaves Spencer Dinwiddie and Isaiah Whitehead as the last point guards standing, though guys like Caris LeVert and even Rondae Hollis-Jefferson can initiate the offense a little bit.

Beyond all the injuries, this still has a good chance to be the most entertaining game on a busy Wednesday night in the NBA.

Playing at a rapid pace–110.94 possessions per 48 minutes; second in the NBA–the Nets have become a nightly must-watch game if you enjoy up-tempo basketball and lots of buckets. Here are the point totals in the first four games for Kenny Atkinson’s squad: 140-131 (L), 126-121 (W), 116-104 (W), 125-121 (L).

Whew. Now, add in the fact that both of these teams are top 10 in the NBA in offensive rating (Brooklyn sixth, Cleveland ninth) and bottom 10 in defensive rating (Brooklyn 26th, Cleveland 23rd), and even the whopping over/under of 225 may not have a chance to stand.
