This week’s episode of Monday Night Raw ended with a massive cliffhanger: Kurt Angle, who had previously said he was going to reveal a scandalous secret next week on Raw, talked to a mysterious person over the phone, telling this person to come next week to help him break the news. He also said to this person, “I love you.” So who was this person that Angle was talking to?
Well, the way Raw was written this week certainly made it sound like Kurt Angle is having an affair. After all, he said earlier in the broadcast that he’s concerned that his family will not stick by him when the news comes out. It’s reasonable to assume, then, that the person he was talking to at the end was the person he has been having an affair with.
Angle said to the person during the segment, “I totally understand. Whoa whoa, stop thinking that way. Why don’t you come here next week and we’ll both do it together? Neither one of us has anything to be ashamed of. I’m proud of you. And I hope you feel the same way about me. Yeah. So why don’t you come here next week and we’ll tell the whole world together? And whatever happens, happens. I love you.”
So who exactly was he talking to? Right now, all we really have are fan theories, but one popular one is that it is Stephanie McMahon. After all, Stephanie McMahon has been due for a return for weeks now, and wrestling news outlets like the Wrestling Observer have reported that the Angle storyline is very likely leading to the return of Stephanie McMahon. It is also rumored that it is leading to a match between Kurt Angle and Triple H at SummerSlam.
If that’s the case, the resolution may actually be that Kurt Angle is having an affair with Stephanie McMahon, and he was inviting her to be on Raw next week to help him with the announcement. Within kayfabe, Stephanie McMahon has been away from the company for months because she was seriously injured at WrestleMania. This would also explain how Kurt Angle will end up fighting Triple H at SummerSlam: it will be a match sparked by Angle having an affair with Triple H’s wife.
This would be sort of a continuation of a storyline from almost two decades ago. In 2000, there was a love triangle story between Triple H, Kurt Angle and Stephanie McMahon. Three years later, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H actually married in real life.
Another somewhat wild theory is that Kurt Angle is having an affair with Dixie Carter. Carter, of course, is the former president of Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, and she was for a time one of Vince McMahon’s biggest rivals in the industry. Carter recently appeared in a documentary about Kurt Angle, which the WWE specifically promoted on its website with a giant banner reading, “Breaking: Dixie Carter to appear on WWE 24 after Monday’s Raw.” Angle just recently returned to the WWE after spending years with Total Nonstop Action.
If the affair is with Dixie Carter or with someone else who fans aren’t even anticipating, Stephanie McMahon might still be involved. She could return to discipline Kurt Angle in her official capacity as commissioner, sparking a feud between McMahon and Angle that culminates in a match between Angle and McMahon’s husband, Triple H.
Of course, the reveal could end up being even bigger than just Angle having an affair. On Monday night, Pro Wrestling Sheet reporter James McKenna suggested that it will involve Angle having an illegitimate child.
For years now, fans have been making jokes about Chad Gable being Kurt Angle’s son, and so now, a popular fan theory is that this will literally revealed to be the case next week. Angle would have been 17 years old when Chad Gable was born.
The answers to this Kurt Angle mystery will be revealed on the July 11th episode of Monday Night Raw.
