Nothing makes for a great holiday season gift like a zippy electric scooter, Goped, or small motorized vehicle. Needless to say, these vehicles are an amazing time for young children, but make no mistake, many of the scooters on this list are just as well-suited for commuting and other adult uses. Of course, in terms of the lower priced scooters, these are mainly catered to low weights and therefore, won’t make for reliable daily modes of transport.
Some factors to consider when buying an electric scooter are top speed, range, and durability. One big thing to note about all of these scooters: none of them area great for climbing hills. Most struggle profusely with even a mild incline. Small electric motors simply aren’t cut out for this type of thing. If you need a scooter that can perform on hills, the Segway (item number seven) is the best bet, but this particular scooter has a bit of a steep learning curve (pun intended).
All that out of the way, here’s the 10 best electric scooters for Christmas 2017 from lowest to highest price. Be sure to look out for the editor’s choice, where value best meets quality for most users.
1. Razor E100 Electric Scooter
The Razor E100 is a great scooter for those with young children at low weights who want an e-scooter that gets the job done. It is by no means the most powerful nor longest range scooter on our list, but it’s got great value for light children who just need a scooter that zooms about. 10MPH is its top speed and it runs for about 40 minutes, though this time will steadily decline with the age of the scooter; the battery typically lasts about a year. This isn’t exactly a buy-it-for-life type of purchase, but for around $100, it will please most young kids. That said, if you’re looking for something a bit more functional, durable, and powerful, it will be best to spend more than the bare minimum.
Price: $115.25 (28 percent off MSRP)
Buy the Razor E100 Electric Scooter here.
- Rechargable battery
- Speeds up to 10MPH
- Easy to start, kick-start motor
- Can run for up to 40 minutes; includes kick stand
- Good gift for a kid
- Brake isn’t great
- Can slip and slid
- Long charge time (12 to 18 hours)
- May be better to opt for more powerful e200 or e300 models

2. Razor E300 Electric Scooter
The E300 costs double the E100, but it brings a lot more value to the table. It can easily handle up to a 160lb person (though not significantly more than this). On top of that, it goes a bit faster, usually around 12 to 15MPH. If you have an older (and heavier) kid, this scooter may be a much better choice while still keeping costs relatively low. It’s a bit more well-built all-around, but it’s still in the “toy class” of scooters; this isn’t something one should depend on for all but the lightest and most infrequent commutes, but it is beefy enough to satisfy demanding kiddos.
Price: $195.01 (28 percent off MSRP)
Buy the Razor E300 Electric Scooter here.
- Speeds up to 15MPH
- Up to 40 minutes of continuous use
- Works for heavier children, teens or adults (up to 160lbs)

3. HoverTrax 2.0 Hoverboard
For those looking to mix things up with a Hoverboard, this model boasts a runtime of 60 minutes, an eight mile per hour top speed, and a blue LED light display. It’s one of the most high quality Hoverboards out there. That said, for heavier users and more sustained uses, it will fade relatively quickly; this still isn’t really a commuter solution. However, for those who want a very fun and cool version of an electronic scooter this holiday season, the Hovertrax Hoverboard is bound to please on a few levels. It is a bit more challenging than a standard scooter and this helps negate any perceived lack of speed. This device offers more than a mode of transportation around the hood, it offers a bit of a challenge and some bragging rights.

- Runtime of up to 60 minutes
- Max speed of eight miles per hour

4. Swagtron SwagCycle
Despite its heinously millennial name, this Swagcycle offers a fair amount of practicality. It has a decent top speed of 10MPH, can charge devices using micro USB, and actually packs a bit of power, being capable of moving adults up to 240lbs. This isn’t exactly a world class commuting machine, but many users report that it is great for short trips around town. For those who are willing to spend some extra money and don’t mind the profile of a bike, this is a great deal. It’s low weight, decently fast, and actually a solidly well-built machine. This isn’t just a toy. Of course, not many will be looking to commute on a SwagCycle.

5. Razor EcoSmart
Razor clearly dominates the toy end of electronic scooters, but their mid-level offering is actually a great choice for kids and adults. Boasting a 90 day warranty, large tires, and a top speed of 12mph, this isn’t just your kid’s e-scooter! One trait that some adults took issue with is its low placed on/off switch; no one likes bending over! However, in terms of getting about town, this EcoSmart scooter may not look all that cool, but it’s got a significantly better build quality, range (12 miles), and overall construction than anything else prior on this list.

- 90 day warranty and includes assembly tool
- Padded seat with adjustable handlebar & seat
- Large 16″ tires

6. eZip 500
For those who are looking for something a bit more sporty than the EcoSmart, the eZip 500 offers similar construction quality, but at a less slowed down pace of life. This scooter has a top speed of up to 18mph, includes a 90 day warranty, and is described as durable and “kid-proof.” It’s a bit faster than the EcoSmart, but not as practical, without that nice little basket. Still, for those who want to cruise about and do it quickly, this is a great option.

7. Segway miniPro (Editor’s Choice)
The Segway was once hailed as the future of modern transportation. Indeed, it is a hallmark of corporate hubris, but make no mistake: this is the best electronic scooter for money out there. While Segways failed to dominate the streets of city in America, this company has still come a long way in crafting a high quality consumer-grade handle-bar lacking scooter that’s very tough to beat. It has solid specs with a capacity of 220lbs and a 14 mile range. The quality of the app, scooter, and various features are what really sets it apart, however.
It does include some minor trade-offs. 10 miles per hour isn’t exactly flying. Another aspect is that some may find it hard to learn especially when it comes to uphill and downhill sections. Still, the Segway is up to just about any task, it just may need some practice.
Price: $549.99 (21 percent off MSRP)
Buy the Segway miniPro here.
- Theft alarm, customizable lights, and updates via app
- Great for all ages
- 220lbs of payload
- 14 mile range
- Excellent build quality
- Max speed limit of 10mph
- Some learning curve when it comes to uphill and downhill

8. Booster Uscooter
Praised as the most reliable electronic scooter money can buy by Cnet, this Booster Uscooter may be the best option for serious commuters. It offers excellent range and speed of 21 miles and 18 miles per hour respectively, in addition to a key commuting aspect, double brakes, This folding electronic scooter also weighs in at a mere 24lbs. It’s not exactly light, but considering its power, that’s not bad at all.
For those who want a durable and fast commuting scooter, this is no toy and will carry folks up to 290lbs in weight.

9. Qieqa Hummer
The Hummer is the fastest scooter on our list. It boasts shocks, a 25 mile max range, and a top speed of 40mph. For the speed demons out there, this can be truly appealing. Of course, there are plenty of reasons to not go this fast on a scooter (namely that one is totally exposed!). Still, for those who want blazing fast trips, the Hummer offers everything one needs to cruise effectively including double breaks and plenty of lights.
While most of the Hummer is straightforward, one user found the brake handles to be reversed, meaning the (safer) back brakes were expected and instead the user deployed the front brakes. Just something to be aware of should you purchase this scooter. Be sure to learn and master the system before hitting its zany top speed. The brake locations are apparently switch as it was primarily targeted at European markets.
Buy the Qieqa Hummer here.
- Double disk brakes
- Max capacity of 250+ lbs
- Powerful shocks
- Max speed of nearly 40mph
- 25 mile max range
- Plenty of lights
- Brake handles are reversed
- Alarm can go off randomly

10. URB-E Black Label Folding Scooter
This top of the line scooter boasts some of the fastest speeds and longest ranges of any on our list. It’s praised as a top notch commuting scooter, includes a one year warranty, and is made of really nice materials. The construction of this device is bar none the best: aircraft grade aluminimum and carbon fiber; this is one scooter that is bound to last.
Some other benefits include its ability to charge a cell phone or tablet and unique folding action. While this scooter isn’t for everyone at this price, if you need an electric scooter that can pass virtually any test, this is one for the job. That said, despite its great top speed, the motor isn’t powerful enough for massive San Francisco hills. One will be best opting for a different (gas powered) scooter if you need this kind of heavy-duty lifting. Still, for those who want the best electronic scooters can do, this is a great option.
Price: $1699 (5 percent off MSRP)
