A recap of Yara and Theon in Season 6.

Theon is slowly recovering from being Reek, but it will take awhile. Meanwhile, his sister Yara is stepping into power and creating world-changing alliances. As Season 7 prepares to begin, check out this refresher on what happened to Theon and Yara during Season 6.

At the beginning of Season 6, Theon and Sansa escape Winterfell and Ramsay. He doesn’t go with Sansa and Brienne to Castle Black to find Jon, because he believes Jon will kill him. Sansa promises to tell him the truth: that Theon did not kill Bran and Rickon. But Theon still believes Jon has plenty of other reasons to kill him, so he decides to return home instead.

Yara is still angry at Theon for not letting her rescue him from Dreadfort, but letting so many other men lose their lives for nothing. He apologizes and cries, which doesn’t impress her. He says he had no idea their dad was murdered and supports her claim to the throne.

During the Kingsmoot, he declares his support for Yara taking the Salt Throne. But soon, their uncle Euron Greyjoy challenges her claim. He admits to murdering their dad. Theon reminds everyone that Euron left and traveled the sea, abandoning them all. Euron suggests they create an alliance with Daenerys, and his suggestion leads to his election as the next king.

Yara and Theon must escape now that Euron has been declared king, and they take the best ships with them. They leave with a plan to ally themselves with Dany before he can.

They arrive at Meereen and make an alliance with Dany, adding their 100 ships to her numbers in exchange for Dany eliminating Euron. Theon insists that Euron will only kill Dany and betray her. When Theon tells her that he supports Yara’s claim to the throne and doesn’t want it for himself, Dany is surprised.

Dany acknowledges the horrors both their fathers did and how they, in contrast, will leave the world a better place. But in order to be allies, she tells Yara that they must give up raping and killing and pillaging. Yara hesitates, and then agrees.

At the end of the season, Theon and Yara, along with Dany and her fleet, are beginning their journey to Westeros.
