Skyrim for the Nintendo Switch is here and with it comes the ability to use your variety of amiibo. If you’ve been an avid collector of amiibo over the years, you’re in luck here as all of them will work with your game.
Although all of the amiibo will work with the game, only the Zelda amiibo will actually give you the Champion’s Tunic, Master Sword and Hylian Shield. Using amiibo isn’t as simple as just tapping it but will instead require some work to do.
The first thing you’ll have to do is equip the Amiibo power. To do this, just open up your directional menu and go into your powers, select amiibo and equip it. From there, hit R on your Joy-Con or Pro Controller to use the power. If done correctly, you should see a yellow circle appear in front of you, similar to how it is in Breath of the Wild, and from there you just tap your amiibo.
The chest you get completely depends on whether you tapped a Zelda amiibo or a different amiibo. If you tapped a Zelda amiibo, you will get a Breath of the Wild-themed chest which has a chance of containing either the Master Sword, Hylian Shield or the Champion’s Tunic. Any other amiibo will give you a chest containing random things like arrows, food, etc.
Here’s what Bethesda has to say about the amiibo support:
Zelda themed amiibo offer a 20 percent chance that you get one of the three Zelda themed items, plus rewards including food, gems, gold, weapons and armor. All other amiibo offer food, gems, gold, weapons and armor. The items will vary depending on which amiibo you use.
All of your amiibo can be used daily but that’s going by real world time and not in-game time. This means if you own 50 amiibo, you can tap all 50 every 24 hours. The main thing you want here is the Zelda gear so it’s probably okay to stop tapping once you obtain it. It only took us one day to get all the gear but that’s with several Zelda amiibo. Luckily, the gear is available without the use of amiibo as well, you just have to head to The Throat of the World.
Having the ability to get this gear in-game is a welcome addition to the Switch version. The PC version is very well known for its mod support and while players have added in items like the Master Sword before, this is the first time it has been available officially in Skyrim. The Nintendo Switch version of Skyrim does not have mod support like the PS4, Xbox One and PC versions do.
Bethesda has been one of the first publishers to show some serious support for the Nintendo Switch. Just in November alone both DOOM and Skyrim have arrived on the console while Wolfenstein 2 arrives some time in 2018. Depending on how these games perform sales-wise it’s possible we could see more Bethesda games coming over to the console.
