The Powerball keeps getting bigger and bigger. The drawing for Wednesday, August 23, 2017, was for $700 million. This is the second-largest drawing in the jackpot’s history, if someone wins. The highest jackpot yet was for $1.6 billion. When do we find out if anyone won?
We should find out if anyone won the jackpot about two hours after the drawing, around 1 a.m. Eastern. We will update this article as soon as that information is available.
The winning numbers are: 7-26-16-23-6 and a Powerball of 4.
We never know immediately after a Powerball drawing if anyone won. It typically takes Powerball about two hours to process all the tickets and determine if someone won and where the winning ticket was purchased.
As soon as the information is available, it will be posted online and we’ll update the story. This information typically also includes who won smaller prizes, such as the Match 5 and Match 5 Power Play.
The odds of winning are one in 292.2 million, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. We haven’t had a winner in this one since June 14.
This was the second largest jackpot in Powerball’s history. After that, Powerball’s next largest winners were $590.5 million in May 2013, $587.5 million in November 2012, and $564.1 million for February 11, 2015.
Powerball is played in 44 states in the U.S., plus D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. You can buy your ticket for Wednesday up until about an hour before the jackpot in most states, although some locations may quit selling tickets earlier than that.
Some people are holding out hope that this jackpot will grow to $1 billion like it did in January. If that happens, you’ll want to pick up your tickets earlier than the day before. Lines got really long in some places when the Powerball was that large.
